Behind the wheel of the Audi R15 TDI

Ian Dickson writes

And there was me thinking F1 steering wheels were mind-boggling and I come across this picture of the wheel in the Le Mans-winning Audi R15 TDI.

These are what all those buttons and lights do:

1: Gearshift lights

2: Left side for lap times, engaged gear in middle

3: Warning lights

4: Ignition

5: Start button

6: Programmable display for brakeforce distribution and fuel mix etc…

7: Gearshift paddles: left to shift down, right to shift up

8: Switch for brakeforce distribution. Reverse gear shown in yellow.

9: ASR for traction control

10: Fuel injection mix adjustment

11: Switches for engine maps

12: Switches for fuel pumps and rear fog light

13: Switches for fuel pump and right turn indicator

14: Fire extinguisher
